Day 6 Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef
I was happy to check out of the icky, wet-dog, smelly BW Ruby’s Inn early this morning. We made it to Sunrise Point and started down the Queen’s Garden trail into the canyon by 7am. We pretty much had the place to ourselves for the first hour. The Narrows is likely my favorite hike of our trip, but the Queen’s Garden is a close 2nd. LOVED it! The vibrant green of the manzanita plants, next to the orange hoodoos, against the bright blue sky was strikingly beautiful in the morning light. Hiking back up the steep switchbacks on the Navajo loop about killed me. I was huffing and puffing and resting on the landings with the grandmas and grandpas, but I made it.
Totally worth it. The kids decided that part of the trail gave off Indiana Jones vibes. A stop at the lodge completed our time at Bryce.
We stopped at Capitol Reef National Park on our way to Moab this afternoon, taking photos at a panoramic viewpoint, petting a horse before eating homemade peach pie and strawberry rhubarb pie at the Gifford House, and tasting apricots the kids picked from an orchard tree (it’s allowed) before continuing on our way.
Unlike the previous hotel, the one we’re at here in Moab for two nights is great! Highly recommend the Aarchway Inn. We took a break from hiking and enjoyed some pool and relaxation time before dinner at Moab Diner. We’re just chillin’ at the hotel this evening, gearing up for our early morning at Arches.
I’m continually amazed by the beauty of God’s creation and grateful for the chance to see and experience these beautifully unique places with my family.
