Day 3 from SLC to Zion
Before we left Salt Lake City, we made a stop at East High, where Disney’s High School Musical was filmed—very exciting.
We listened to the appropriate HSM playlist as we drove away. Pit stop for a stretch break and jr triple berry Frosties, and then lunch at Centro Wood-Fired Pizzeria (highly recommend) in Cedar City before we headed up to Cedar Breaks National Monument. The views up there were spectacular at 10,461 ft.
A crash on the highway ahead had us stuck in traffic for a bit. A lady in a car next to us entertained us with her stuffed dog on her window. She had him waving to us as we passed each other multiple times. Just as we were driving into Springdale, the town we’re staying in right outside Zion, it started pouring! Apparently, this kind of storm is rare here in June. The locals we spoke with said they get the occasional, quick thunderstorm but nothing like that windy, rainy downpour! Red, muddy water streamed over the streets and in puddles everywhere. The storm was all over, though, after we carried all our luggage through the rain to our hotel room. Made for a hot, humid evening (96 degrees at 5:30pm). We had dinner at Oscar’s Cafe and ventured into the park to walk the Pa’rus Trail near the Visitor’s Center and see where we need to be to catch the shuttle early in the morning to hike The Narrows tomorrow. We’re tired from traveling but happy to be here and getting along well.
