Aubs' Quote

Classic Aubrey quote (spoken very quickly with a laugh/smile): “If Tuesday was switched with Thursday, it would be my second favorite day of the school week.” This has come up every Tuesday and Thursday in recent weeks (and again tonight because tomorrow is Thursday). She explains that she really likes Tuesdays but wishes Tuesdays were in the place of Thursdays, right before Fridays.
Silly girl!

Aubrey's birthday

Basketball season got in the way of Aubrey's birthday party planning. We had to have her parties over a week before her actual birthday to fit them in. I made Oreo cakes for her family party this year, and we managed to squeeze her party in between basketball pictures and community group that night. The next day was President's Day, and we took advantage of the day off to have Aubrey's friend party. She decided she wanted to play laser tag, so we booked a private party at Wunderland and invited her friends and some of their siblings, and we all (parents included) had fun play laser tag for an hour. On her actual birthday, we had four different sports practices, and we were coming and going all evening, so Aubrey decided on MOD pizza, and Greg picked it up on his way home from work. We all gathered later that night to have cake and ice cream all together before bed. Aubrey's birthday lasted a couple weeks this year!

Kari's limerick

Kari had to write a limerick for English class, and it cracked us up just how very "Kari" it was.

If your pillow was made out of bread
It would feel very soft on your head.
When you're hungry at night
You can just take a bite
For your food is right there on your bed.

Jump Rope Club

While I was saying goodnight to Grant in his bed the night before the big jump rope performance, he confessed that he was "super nervous" about jump-roping at Barlow. I reassured him that he would do great and it would be ok if he messed up, that he could just keep trying. And that is exactly what he did. He had a great big grin on his face throughout the whole performance. He did his double-unders with gusto and did them well! Double dutch went well, too. Haven only messed them up once. :-) I love how the Barlow students scream and cheer for the kids the whole time they're out there. They react to fancy tricks and clap enthusiastically. It is so cute! These are precious memories.

For the Love of Lucy

One evening when I was folding laundry Grant was watching "I Love Lucy" (by himself) and laughing out loud. It was the episode where Lucy thinks Ricky is trying to kill her.  It warmed my heart, both his belly laughter and the fact that he appreciates my favorite old show. I think of Jane every time I see that one because she used to imitate Lucy dancing around in the kitchen—“What seems to be the trouble between us?” Maybe that’s part of why it’s one of my favorites! Passing along the love to my children.

Spelling Bee Day

Greg took a half day off work so he could come to Grant's spelling bee. We squeezed in a lunch date at Sugarpine. The food was delicious, as always, and the winter decor was cute. Our little 3rd grade speller made it to the top ten (technically, top 7) in the big kid spelling bee today, up against 4th and 5th graders. Proud of him for working hard this year! Spelling bees are fun.

FCA, Foot masks, and puzzle

A bit of a hodge-podge post here. This is a photo I snapped when I snuck into the back of the room to watch West Orient's FCA. I was subbing that day, and Joel was doing the lesson with Colby and Taylor. I got to listen in. It was such an encouragement to me and a great way to start the day. It was good for my heart to see so many kids there and to get to hear what Joel and his friends had to say about what they've been learning as they taught on a passage of scripture. It was especially good, as I had witnessed a lot of bad behavior while subbing that week. This is a big, healthy FCA group. Gives me hope!

No more boot!

Look! Two shoes on his feet, boot in his hand! He had high hopes for this appointment and brought his other shoe, just in case. The tibia is healing nicely. That’s the good news. The not-so-good news is that the fibula (the other bone he broke) is still not healed, so it’s three more weeks of no activity or sports. He has physical therapy 2x a week and another X-ray in a month. Wish I could speed healing for him! February 26th is the date the doctor told him he could resume physical activity. He's counting down the days.

Doll Hospital

Caroline's curly hair had become kind of a mess, so we sent her in for a makeover at the American Girl Doll Hospital. Basically, she got a new head. :-) I love that Aubrey still plays with her American Girl dolls (Kari passed down her Kit Kittredge, and we have a Target doll or two) with her friends. Caroline was sent back in a hospital gown, with a hospital bracelet, along with a certificate of good health and a get well card. So cute! Her hair is lovely once again.
