Aubrey Track

Aubrey tried track and field for the first time this year.  Normally, kids get to start in 6th grade, but Aubrey was in 6th grade in 2020 (covid), so this year was our 8th grader's first track experience. She tried the long jump, high jump, the 800m, and the 400m relay. I never did see her do the high jump, and I think there was only one meet when I saw her do the long jump. Aubrey did track for the social aspects and wasn't super passionate about any of the events. She came in last a couple times in the 800m, and later at a tennis match when Grandpa A. asked her why she chose to do one of the hardest running events in track, her answer was, "Because everyone cheers for you when you finish, even if you are last. No one cheers for the people who are last in the other races." :) I don't think track will be in her future, but she had fun doing it!

The weather did not cooperate for sports this spring. It was COLD and wet. One meet out in Sandy got canceled after and hour and half when the field was covered in snow and hail. The kids were freezing, wet, and miserable. There was a loud cheer from the stands when they announced they were calling it. It was so funny! I brought hot chocolate and tea to multiple track meets.
