First official sport

Kari's had two soccer practices, and I've forgotten to bring my camera both times. Luckily, Christine brought hers to Thursday's practice and posted some photos here. She also explains how, with no soccer coaching experience whatsoever, Greg became coach and her husband, Mike, became assistant coach. The guys are going a great job, and it's going very well so far. Having her friend, Ellie, on the team has made it a fun and exciting experience for Kari thus far, which is great because when we first approached Kari about playing soccer she didn't want anything to do with it. Having Daddy as her coach has helped make it a not-so-scary new experience, too. Poor Joel is sad because he wants so badly to be on the team, but he and Ellie's brother, Blake, (both 3 yrs old) will just have to play off to the side this season. We're looking forward to a fall full of soccer entertainment.

isn't that just the way that it works! The older one, who cares little for the sport, gets to play while the enthusiastic (envious) younger sibling stands on the sidelines.

Julia started playing soccer at age 4, after watching her brothers play for a couple of seasons. Before she ever played on the team, she turned to Mark and said, "Daddy, when I play soccer, I'm going to make a goal!"
And, when she started on a team, she was the top scorer (of course, at 4 years old, it comes down to knowing which way to kick the ball, and she had learned that from watching from the sidelines!).
So, these may just be years "in training" for the younger sibs. They are learning the game, even if they don't get on the field. And, hey, fresh air is healthy, right??
Enjoy these wonder years . . . they FLY.
