Letter for Aubrey

Today we had a baby dedication at church and had the privilege of dedicating our third child to the Lord in front of our church family. I love how Cornerstone does this. The parents write a letter to their baby and read it aloud up front during the service, and then one of the elders prays for the family. Here is the letter we wrote for our baby girl:

Dear Aubrey,

Our first few weeks with you have been the least traumatic out of our three children, which has allowed them to be the sweetest and most enjoyable. You’ll be eight weeks old tomorrow, and already you fit so nicely into our family. Your brother and sister adore you, and almost daily pronounce you “the cutest baby in the world.” You’ve demanded very little and have graciously given us long stretches of sleep at night since the day you came home, so we’re wondering if you’re going to be more laid back and easy-going, but we don’t really know because you’re brand new. We’re looking forward to getting to know you as you grow, getting to know your personality, your likes and dislikes, and just you as a unique individual.

As our third child, you get the benefit of having more experienced parents who know, for example, how to buckle you in your car seat properly (your sister didn’t have that benefit and was forced to be a bit of a contortionist until we figured it out at 6 months old). While we may have more confidence as parents, we also know that we need lots and lots of help as we raise you and that we need to rely heavily on God for wisdom and guidance. He gave you to us, but ultimately you belong to him, and he knows you best. Today we dedicate you to the Lord and commit to loving you, praying for you, and raising you to know and love God with your whole heart. We pray that you will come to know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior at an early age and that you will walk with him all the days of your life. We pray that you will have a strong, unwavering faith in the God who created you, who knows you, and who loves you more than we can even imagine, that you will trust in the Lord with all your heart, not lean on your own understanding, that you will acknowledge him in all your ways and that He will direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6).

You are so precious, and we are so thankful you have joined our family.
We love you, Aubrey Ann!

Thanks for putting this on here guys. Jen and I were sorry to have missed out on the dedication today, so we were happy to read this letter to your latest addition tonight. You both are amazing parents and we are excited about raising children alongside you!

Andrea,

Thanks again for writing and reading that (for those who don't know, I married a great auther/ gatherer of thoughts. She pretty much is able to make anything I say sound eloquent). I was tearing up just listening, would never have made it through. I love you, and Aubrey too!

Oh, I'm glad you shared that letter - it was so nice to be able to read it. We were bummed to have to miss church on the baby dedication day, but Charlie's sick...again.
Love ya,
Marlene
