Spring Break CA Road Trip, Part 1

We had an epic road trip down to CBU to visit Kari and then on to Indio/Palm Springs for a few days. We went down with three other families who also have kids at CBU. Strandberg met us in Indio at the resort, which was great. We left the wind, rain, and snow of Oregon and headed down to the sunny California blue skies.

We spent the night at a not-so-great hotel on the way down. After a long day of driving, we were looking forward to the pool and hot tub, but the hot tub was not usable. In the morning, we got up expecting a decent breakfast because that's what was advertised, but instead we were handed a brown bag with a yucky muffin, a small juice box, and fruit cocktail cup, and a icky granola bar--not good. We got Starbucks instead.

We made it to Cal Baptist by about 12pm, after a very stressful drive through LA traffic. I chose the worst stretch to drive. Should have had Greg drive. By the time we got there, I was madder than mad. But we made it to Kari! And everything was ok after a few minutes. We all went to a Mexican restaurant for lunch, and everyone split off for a bit before going to play tennis at a local park. Kari gave us a tour. It wasn't visiting hours, so the guys couldn't go up to her room, but Aubrey and I did. Kari showed us all over campus and showed us where she'll be living next year.

After the kids played tennis for a while, we all went mini-golfing. Dinner was a bit of a fiasco, as we couldn't figure out where to go--tried a couple places but the wait was too long. We ended up at Canes Chicken and then went back to our hotel. The college kids came with us to swim and hot tub before heading back to campus for the night.

The next morning Kari had class, so we walked around campus, went to the campus store and bought some CBU gear, and got acai bowls at the Shake Smart. We lounged in the sun on the comfy chairs outside Shake Smart for a while, got a tour of the engineering building from Hudson's roommate, Zack, and then had lunch at the Caf with Kari when she was done with class. Joel was very impressed by the Caf and couldn't believe that you could eat whatever you wanted and could go back for more!

We left for Indio that afternoon, with a plan to bring the college kids to the resort the next day to spend one night with us there. The weather in Indio was unusually cool, but we enjoyed the pools and sun anyway. One night we went up on the ridge to see if we could see the planets lined up. We were able to see two of them but couldn't see the third one.
