Easter

Dying eggs--We lost Joel to March Madness for a bit, but he came back.

Enjoyed a great Easter service at church today! Loved listening to the choir and meditating on Christ's resurrection and his amazing love for us.

The kids all dressed up for church.

Sunriver Spring Break

Since we haven't vacationed enough this month (hee-hee), we took the family to Sunriver for the first part of spring break. We coordinated the 3-night trip with the Wilsons, spending most of our time there together but renting our own places to sleep. I had a full-blown sinus infection that I had just gotten medicine for before we left, so that was a bit of a bummer, but it didn't stop us from having a wonderful time. The weather forecast wasn't great for being outdoors, so we brought games, along with our bikes, and planned some indoor activities.

Greg managed to get 6 bikes plus a trail-a-bike onto our 5-bike rack. We were quite a sight. :)

We made it to Sunriver mid-afternoon, before we were allowed to check in to our house, so we spent some time at Fort Rock park, a place the kids know well and love, while we waited for our house to be ready.

We really liked the house we rented. It was perfect for us. I especially appreciated the gas fireplace--so cozy and warm.

Not knowing what the weather was going to allow we squeezed in an evening bike ride while it was still nice before going to dinner at the Village Bar and Grill.

The next morning, the Wilsons came over (they got in late the night before) with donuts to share, and we hung out at our place for a while, watching March Madness games, working on a 1000 piece puzzle, playing board games, and just relaxing and chatting. We headed to the park to play for a while before lunch and played a game of parents vs kids soccer. Kids won. Our goalie wasn't stellar (it was me). :)

After lunch, we went for another bike ride to go watch the Wilsons do the mud run (we were going to do it, but Kari's ankle wasn't quite healed yet, so we opted out). We almost made it back before the rain storm...but not quite! That evening we ordered pizza and hung out at our place again, doing more of what we did that morning. :) The kids went in the hot tub for a while, too.

The next morning was swimming at SHARC. I stayed back at the house and read my book by the fire while Greg took the kids to swim. They even got to use the outdoor water slide for a while. The water was warm, but the walk up to the slide was chilly! They had a blast. I enjoyed my time, too. :)

After lunch, we all drove into Bend to watch a movie, Zootopia. It was good! We all enjoyed it. Afterward, we went to a food cart place called The Lot for dinner. The outdoor covered area had heaters above and a heated concrete bench, which was nice because it was cold! They're all sitting on the warm bench here, waiting for their food. That evening, we headed back to our place to watch more basketball, finish that puzzle, and teach the kids how to play Taboo. We introduced the Wilson kids to I Love Lucy, trying to get them hooked with the "Job Switching" episode (aka. the chocolate factory one), while we ate ice cream. Another fun day!

We woke up to snow our last morning there! Greg surprised the kids by telling them they'd better get one more soak in before we left, so they got to go hot-tubbing in the snow.

We met the Wilsons at Hot Lava bakery in the Village, and the kids scarfed their donuts so they could go play out in the snow. They had a snowball fight while we sat and ate our goodies inside. It was a pretty great way to end our time there. Such fun memories!

We stopped in Sisters for a few hours on our way home to give Brennan his birthday gift and to see Ryan and Michelle and the kids for a bit. It's always fun to see them and always hard to leave them! It was a short but sweet visit.

Maui: Home!

The storm had mostly passed by morning, so we got up early and went to the Gazebo again for our last breakfast. It didn't disappoint!

last beach walk

Ready to go--expected a quick 4 1/2 hour flight home and had an empty seat in our row!

When we got home, we were greeted by smiling kids, signs, and a cake. It was a happy homecoming.

together again!
