First day of school

Yesterday was the first day for Kari and Joel. Aubrey's first day is tomorrow. I have a 4th grader, a 2nd grader, and a kindergartener! The morning started out pretty rough. We got to school just fine. Everyone was up by 6:30am, so they had plenty of time to get ready. Nerves were running pretty high! The trouble came once we got inside the school. For some reason, they did things differently this year and made everyone go into the gym first before heading to their classrooms. It was utter chaos. The school totally botched entry on the first day. I ended up getting to walk with Joel to his class but wasn't able to make it to Kari's, so I just snapped a photo from her doorway, blew her a kiss, waved good-bye, and prayed all day long for my kids. Joel was excited and happy about his class, but Kari was nervous this summer because she didn't get the teacher she wanted (the one she had for 2nd grade), and several of her good friends are in the other class. When I picked them up at the end of the day, though, they both had smiles on their faces. They'd recovered from the rough start and had great days. Kari has friends in her class and really likes her teacher already. Yeah!

After we left the school, we went over to the Obrists and picked apples. Kathy had a dwarf apple tree that needed picking, and I had two little ones who were eager to help and actually able to reach the fruit! It was a good activity/distraction for the morning. Thank you to Kathy for keeping me from crying on this first day of school. :)
