Mother Knows Best?

Before I left for work in the morning, I put this ice pack on Grant's instrument case, for him to give back to my mom, who was picking him up to take him to FCA that morning. It also happened to be the day of his band field trip to Bullwinkle's. He didn't understand why the ice pack was there (it was next to the sunscreen I had set out for him to take with him), so he put it in his backpack and carried it around all day at Bullwinkle's. It cracked me up that he just brought it with him. It was not light either. Ha ha!

Memorial Day Weekend--Depoe Bay

 Friendscation

What a great weekend with dear friends! There were 29 of us, I believe, in the house we rented in Depoe Bay. We got there by 8:30pm, grabbing dinner on the way, Friday night. Saturday's weather was amazing! Sunny and blue skies at the beach--beautiful. We spent a while at Fogarty Creek State Recreation area in the morning, which had a great little beach and big rocks for the big boys to explore. A kind family took the photo of the whole group (minus Strandbergs who were still finishing up at state tennis and came later that day). After our lunch back at the house, we walked into town to explore the shops and get ice cream. We played games and relaxed that evening. A group drove out to a viewpoint to look at the stars with Kevin's fancy telescope.

The next day we went south and stopped at Beverly Beach, as that was one of Miles' requests. It was misty and cloudy, and some of us just sat on a blanket and chatted, while others explored. They found a baby seal carcass and gave it a burial. Some worked on some beach art. Next stop was Newport. We ate our picnic lunch at tables next to a brewery that wasn't open yet and then walked down to downtown Newport. We visited the sea lions by the pier and some people made a stop for boba tea. That evening we had a sit down dinner of lasagna, salad, and bread at the huge, long table at the house (really a couple tables pushed together). We all fit, just barely. That night about half our group went back to the beach for a fire and others stayed back to do an escape room game. Hudson surprised us and showed up for the last night, which was fun. We didn't think he'd be able to make it at all.

The next morning we packed up and headed for home. Our family stopped at Dairy Queen in Lincoln City, and I had an epic MT (Mom Tumble), tripping on a yellow parking curb and landing HARD on the concrete. My family turned back and looking in horror at me on the ground, and Greg came running. I was bleeding a couple places, hit my hip, my shoulder, and my knee. Greg busted out the first aid kit and helped patch me up so we could go in and get lunch. It was a sad end to a great weekend. I was limping and bruised, but ok. Stupid curb.
