Kari's CBU Graduation

Instagram/FB Post:

We have a college grad!

Our whole family had the privilege of flying down for Kari’s graduation from California Baptist University. She graduated summa cum laude with a double major in English and Christian Studies. Next, she is starting a post-bacc program in speech-language pathology at Portland State University. We’re glad she decided to come back to Oregon. (Grant is especially happy she’s coming home, as Aubrey will be leaving in the fall, along with Joel, and he didn’t like the idea of being left behind, alone.)
Kari has grown and matured so much in her time at CBU and is so different from the terrified 18-year-old girl we left standing on the curb in front of Simmons Hall almost four years ago. (I sobbed for 45 straight minutes after that. And again the entire flight home.) She is unwavering in her faith, strong in her convictions, and confident in who she is. As we sat in the event center today for graduation, the same place we sat with Kari for freshman orientation, I cried happy tears, reflecting on how far she’s come and all that God has done in her life. We are so very proud of her! It was a joy to celebrate Kari and to be with all four of our kids on this quick trip.

Earlier in the month, Kari had a friend take some grad photos with her cap and gown, and the rest of the photos were from our time with her. It was a quick trip--Sunday morning to Monday night--but it was quality time together, and I loved it. Kari and Joel stayed another day to be there for Kylee's graduation, and the Pate, Langley, Solomon crew included them in their celebration and festivities. They drove home Wednesday.
