The day after Easter, Greg left for a ten-day work trip--Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany. When he changed roles in his job back in November, he ended up with a lot of direct reports and team members in Europe, and he hadn't yet met any of them in person. He and a coworker flew to Italy and spent time in Milan and then flew to Amsterdam, Netherlands, and then drove to Nijmegen, then to Germany and back to Amsterdam. Four days after he left, his dad was flown by air ambulance down to UCSF, where he was admitted to wait for a lung transplant. His oxygen needs were too high by that point, and so the team of doctors decided it would be best if he were in the hospital down there, rather than here, so he'd be ready whenever a set of donor lungs became available.
While Greg was gone, he sent photos of Johnny, the scary doll that has become a family joke, accompanying him on his travels--something lighthearted to bring a smile during a very stressful time. The photos and commentary were awesome!
While he was gone, I kept busy with work and trying to make it to both kids' tennis matches and get Grant where he needed to go. It was kind of crazy, but we made it work! Prom happened while Greg was gone, too, but we took lots of photos to document the occasion, and Grant was fine with hanging out at home alone while I chaperoned the dance. I didn't want to miss it!
