Joel had a band festival for all the district middle schools, and half an hour before he was supposed to be at Barlow, he realized he forgot his trombone at school. He had his music but not his instrument! We jumped in the car and drove over to the school. We were able to get in but couldn't find a janitor to let us into the band room. We waited around and searched for 15 minutes before coming up with plan C (plan B was get into the band room). I called Leah and asked if Sam would be willing to let Joel borrow his trombone after he was done playing in the festival (their school was in it, too, and they would be there). Leah had a better idea--Sam could play Eric's trombone, and Joel could play Sam's. I didn't realize they had two at their house, but boy, were we happy that they did. Sam brought both trombones to Barlow, and Joel was able to play. Crisis averted! We decided to thank Sam by making him his own loaf of "big bread" and giving him a jar of our strawberry freezer jam. He was one happy cousin!
