Sad Thanksgiving and Tree-Fetching

Best laid plans…Our week with Kari did not turn out as I had hoped. Influenza A dominated our family—took us OUT. Kari was the only one who was well, as she had just had it the prior week down at school and was on the mend, so she was still able to do things and meet up with friends. It was just sad and so disappointing. She got home late Friday night and by Saturday afternoon, Greg was down and the domino effect ensued. (He had been in Corvallis at OSU that Wednesday, interviewing engineering students, and he and his coworkers were all sick by the weekend. We’re blaming those college students, not ours. Haha!) We were pretty pathetic on Thanksgiving--had to stay home. We managed to sit around the table together for a few minutes before Grant needed to go lie down again. It’s kind of funny now, but it wasn’t then! I admit I was not very thankful. I shed pitiful tears multiple times. The day after, though, everyone was finally fever-free and feeling (mostly) good enough to go get our tree, a tradition we’ve had for many years. It made my day and salvaged the week a little in my mind, along with the puzzle time I got with Kari while we all watched Elf. She flew out early Saturday morning, and we mustered up energy, in spurts, to start decorating for Christmas between coughing fits and nose-blowing. She comes home again in a little over two weeks, and hopefully, we’ll be illness-free for Christmas! (Please, Lord!)

She's home!

My face didn’t show it last night (sinus infection and so tired), but my heart felt like it might burst with happiness. Kari’s home! Big hugs, big smiles, sweet reunions, sleepy siblings, and some nigh-night soup. Grant tried to stay awake; Aubrey decided tomorrow would be just as good for a reunion. :) Looking forward to this week with our family together again.

Water polo for Aubrey

We finally talked Aubrey into giving water polo a try this fall. Her cousins, Grant, and Makayla helped us convince her to do it. It was very hard at first, but she ended up being glad she did it, and she's planning on doing it again next year. She made some new friends and renewed some friendships from when she was younger. Aubrey was on JV and got invited to go to state with Varsity, which was exciting. They made it to the state championship and ended up getting 2nd, a heart-breaking loss, but it was fun to be there, watch her cousins and teammates play, and experience the state tournament. Looking forward to next year!

Other November happenings

Union contract negotiations (they finally settled, and we didn't have to go on strike), a flat tire at work, cozy nights at home, pizza Friday movie night, school photo wall, long hours of work at school and lots of working at home, thankfulness, crepes at the Harvest Moon (Bazaar), and snuggling kitties.
